2013-05-06 Malaysia General Elections 2013 (GE13)

Malaysia General Elections 2013 (GE13)

By Lintang Bob Yong

For the past 10 days, I was listening, reading and watching videos on GE13. So much so, every night when I went to sleep, I had night mares and got up the next morning behaving like a zombie.
Politicians, like worn-out records repeatedly love to talk about the same stuff when I hear them speak on Ceramah. Just like persisted salesmen, but instead of promoting the merits of their products, politicians use propaganda or instil fear as their objectives to win votes.

A few days before the polling, I put down my thoughts on Facebook.

1. In the eyes of God, we are one human race and equal. I pray God will lead and guide me to vote for a government that has His vision.

2. Oh Lord, we don’t want Malay or Chinese or Indian Prime Minister. All we want in this GE13 is a MALAYSIAN Prime Minister. So God please help us, help our beloved Malaysia. Amen.

3. Promising any particular race a fair treatment and policies is redundant and not necessary. All Malaysian citizens under the constitution are to be treated fairly and equally. A true Malaysian Prime Minister will see to it he does just that and this is the kind of leadership we pray and hope for after the 2013 General Election.
I wrote on the eve of polling day.
We, Malaysians, pledge our united efforts to attain these ends guided by these principles:
Belief  in God
Loyalty to King and country
Supremacy of the constitution
Rule of Law
Mutual respect and morality.

On polling day, my family and I went to church before voting. We pray for:
God’s purposes to be fulfilled
Results to be accepted by everyone
No violence and threats
Reconciliation

Now that the results are known, I wish that:
The executive, the legislature, the judiciary, the civil service and the media must be allowed to work and act independently. The Malaysian Prime Minister owes it to the Rakyat to observe and embrace these tenets to ensure peace and prosperity.

The real test is after the election.
"When the people fear the government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people there is liberty." -Jefferson
